Ethnicity

Ethnicity encompasses the shared cultural, linguistic, and ancestral identity of a learner group. In training and assessment, ignoring ethnic diversity can lead to systemic bias, where instruction methods or assessment materials inadvertently favor the dominant culture. Inclusive practice requires vetting learning materials to ensure they are free from cultural stereotypes and that language used in assessments does not disadvantage non-native speakers (unless language proficiency is the competency being tested). Furthermore, respecting ethnicity involves accommodating cultural norms—such as specific dietary requirements or prayer schedules—within the training timetable, fostering a respectful environment where all learners feel safe and valued.
